A glimpse of what’s inside

Most telemetry data is never used

On average, only 13% of collected telemetry is actively used for monitoring, alerting, or troubleshooting.
A full 84% of companies use less than a quarter of the data they collect, paying to store and process irrelevant signals that inflate their observability bills.

Logs are the biggest cost driver

70% of respondents said high log ingestion and indexing are the top contributors to soaring observability spend. Other major factors include excessive trace volumes (50%), metric retention costs (35%), and paying for redundant or unused telemetry data (32%).

DevOps must chase engineering

On average, only 13% of collected telemetry is actively used for monitoring, alerting, or troubleshooting.
Nearly half of the respondents (47%) said telemetry optimization requires joint effort between DevOps and developers. While DevOps typically owns the problem, they depend on engineering to deliver the fixes, contributing to slow resolution and bottlenecks.
Responsible Roles for Telemetry Data Optimization

AI is top of mind for optimization

Demand for AI telemetry optimization is on the rise, with mid-market and enterprise teams increasingly prioritizing AI-driven solutions to manage telemetry and observability challenges.
71% of respondents are interested in or actively looking for solutions.
